Art Luppino led the NCAA in rushing in back-to-back seasons of 1,359 and 1,313 yards, then unprecedented in college football.

Accomplishments: Luppino was a co-captain of the team in 1956. He was a second-team All-American selection in 1955. Luppino won the Swede Nelson National Sportsmanship Award in 1954. He was also part of the first-ever Arizona Sports Hall of Fame induction class in 1976.

Luppino was a two-time first-team All-Border Conference selection (1954, 1955). He also ranks in the top 10 in UA history in the following categories: 

• Career rushing yards: 4th, 3,381 yards 

• Career rushing touchdowns: 2nd, 44 touchdowns 

• Career points scored: 2nd, 337 points 

• Career all-purpose yards: 4th, 4,963 yards 

• Single-season rushing yards: 5th, 1,359 yards (1954); also 6th, 1,313 yards (1955)

• Single-season rushing touchdowns: 2nd, 21 touchdowns (1954)

• Single-season total touchdowns scored: Tied for 1st, 24 touchdowns (1954)

• Single-season points scored: 1st, 166 points (1954)

• Single-season all-purpose yards: 3rd, 2,193 yards (1954); also 6th, 1,902 yards (1955)

• Single-game rushing yards: 5th, 228 yards (on six carries against New Mexico State in 1954)

• Single-game touchdowns scored: Tied for 1st, five touchdowns (against New Mexico State in 1954)

• Single-game points scored: 1st, 32 points (against New Mexico State in 1954); also 3rd, 25 points (against Utah in 1954)

• Single-game all-purpose yards: 2nd, 359 yards (against New Mexico State in 1954); also 7th, 311 yards (against Oregon in 1955); also 8th, 289 yards (against Arizona State in 1954)
