Steve Landau gets up before the sun to get his run or bike ride on during the hot summer months.

Steve Landau: Race director, Everyone Runs, Everyone Walks

How do you survive the summers in Tucson?

“I mostly swim. I’m a competitive swimmer and I ride my bike. I get up early in the morning. If I’m gonna ride my bike or run I get up at 5:30 or 6. You can’t wait till 6 or 7 at night because its still gonna be 95 degrees. The older you get, getting up early comes easy. Outside of exercising, I go from an air conditioned home to an air conditioned car to an air conditioned office.”

Summer tip:

Missing race season? Get your fix at the annual Run with the Roosters, which takes place at 5:05 a.m. on July 12. The five-mile course starts at Old Tucson Studios and takes you along Kinney Road. Cool off afterward with a free sno-cone or take a turn on the slip ‘n’ slide. Register at everyoneruns.net.
