No. 2 Long Island University, a two-time national champion under coach Clair Bee, played at Bear Down Gym on a Monday night. A record crowd of 4,650 attended and Arizona did not lead until the final 15 seconds. A foul shot by Phoenix High School grad Jerry Dillon with 15 seconds to play gave Arizona a 62-61 victory over the 17-1 Blackbirds.
