Students have planted 21 new trees on campus. Tucson Electric Power, Trico Electric Cooperative, Long Realty, Chapman Honda and Hamstra Heating and Cooling were major sponsors for the first 10,000 trees campaign. According to Tucson Clean and Beautiful, trees increase shade to reduce energy consumption, increase soil retention, increase property value and cleanse the air of carbon dioxide. Trico and Tucson Electric Power customers can order shade trees at a reduced cost at tucsoncleanandbeautiful.org online.
