The Navajo Nation and the University of Arizona are partnering to encourage Navajo students seeking a career in medicine.

Tribal and college officials will sign a six-year agreement Thursday establishing a scholarship fund for tribal members. Tuition will be paid for up to seven Navajo students per year at the universityโ€™s Tucson or Phoenix campuses.

The university will match funding students receive from the tribeโ€™s scholarship office. Students who benefit from the fund will be required to serve Navajo communities for at least five years after completing their medical residency.
