Finland native Lauri Markkanen chose to spend a year playing college ball in the U.S. in order to improve his game against a different style of play, but he’s also picking up a few other things along the way.

Like Thanksgiving.

The Wildcats’ early Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday was Markkannen’s first. He ate turkey and all the usual side dishes at the team’s Las Vegas hotel.

So what did he think?

“It was OK,” he said.

Then again, the Finnish aren’t known for effusive praise. When the Star posted Markkanen’s impression of the meal online Friday afternoon, that point quickly arrived from Helsinki via Twitter.

“If a Finn says something is “OK”, it means “really good” in American English,” tweeted Paavo Rossi, referring to Markkanen’s statement. “We are masters of understatement.”
