The scout says

“They always play with a high-level of toughness. They have a purpose on both ends of the floor and execute extremely well. I would say they hang their hat on the defensive end as well as overall toughness and they just happen to have one of the best guard tandems in all of college basketball right now. They just play hard-nosed, man-to-man defense. It doesn’t look as though they accept excuses for not getting the job done. They’re assignment oriented and together their five guys form a really tough defensive team. They’ll deny a little bit and they also have a couple of different presses they’ll mix in to try to keep you off balance. But mostly they got back in their halfcourt man.”

VanVleet “is an ideal college point guard. He has great leadership, he takes care of the ball, he gets his teammates involved. He has the ability to score. Baker has really good size, really good athleticism. He’s their best perimeter defender. They have poise and composure, they dribble and pass and shoot really well and get their teammates involve. Everyone on the team kind of knows their role." — UA assistant coach Mark Phelps, who scouted the Shockers.
