Walking on air
After beating Vanderbilt in the First Four game on Tuesday night, Wichita State boarded a flight in Dayton, Ohio, at about 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Shockers pulled into their Providence hotel at about 5 a.m., then went to sleep until 1 p.m. – and had lunch after that.
VanVleet wasn’t complaining.
“This time of year, I could stay up all day,” he said. “I mean, we could have walked to Providence for all I care. I’m just happy to be in the tournament… and we’re not going to let some sleep or late travel” be a problem.
Besides, the Shockers have plenty of chance to catch up on their rest. They were assigned the last media interview and practice slots on Wednesday, and won’t have to face Arizona until about 9:20 Eastern Time on Thursday.
“We’re not looking for any excuses,” Wichita State’s Anton Grady said. “We’re just happy to be here, and we’re excited to play basketball.”
