Four nights after his father Malcom was murdered in Beirut, Lebanon, Kerr, a relatively unknown freshman, scored 12 points coming off the bench in his first-ever game against ASU. Kerr’s first shot, with 12 minutes remaining in the first half, gave the Wildcats a 12-10 lead and is considered the turning point in breaking the Sun Devils’ six-year domination (11-1) of the series.
