Gil Heredia pitches for the Phoenix Firebirds in May, 1992, at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson. Heredia is a Nogales, Ariz., native who played at Pima College and the University of Arizona.

When the Aztecs reached the NJCAA World Series title game for the first time, in 1985, Heredia, a righthander, went 15-1, and was a first-team All-American. The Nogales High School product pitched Arizona to the 1986 NCAA title a year later.
