Rancho Sahuarita residents now have a much shorter drive for Spam musubi, Kalbi short ribs, Kalua pork and other island delights.

Mama’s Hawaiian Bar-B-Cue, which opened its first location at 850 E. Speedway in early December, unveiled a second spot, at 15990 S. Rancho Sahuarita Blvd., on June 24.

A grand opening celebration Friday will include hula dancers, Hawaiian shaved ice and a ribbon cutting, scheduled for early evening, said Mama’s marketing director, Matthew Ostman, while doing deliveries for the new eatery. (Yes, they deliver!)

In a former Jerry Bob’s Restaurant — “dressed up with a little Hawaiian,” Ostman says — the new Mama’s offers basically the same menu as its UA-area sibling, with the addition of smaller portions for kids.

Hours are also a little more family-friendly, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, compared with the Speedway Mama’s 3 a.m. closing time.
