Tucson rock musician Loren Dircks was inspired to record "The Walking Lady" in 2009 by Lydia Reis, known locally as the "Umbrella Lady," who died on Jan. 8, 2023.

One of the things that made Lydia Reis so noticeable also made her vulnerable: She regularly walked along some of the Tucson area's busiest roads.
