When Brownridge went off for 44 against the Wildcats last season, it wasn’t a fluke.

Not for Brownridge, who averaged 20.6 points and made the all-WCC team last season, and not for UA coach Sean Miller.

Brownridge’s performance exposed defensive slippage on a team that had been among the nation’s best during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

“It was an easy 44 or 45,” Miller said. “He was closer to 60 than 20. He missed some good shots and that says a lot about last year’s team for us. Everybody saw that defensive stopper role and they just ran as fast as they could the other direction. … Although we might have improved somewhat, (tough defense) never became part of last year’s identity.”
