Used to be fast-food meant you could walk up to the counter, order, and three, four minutes later dinner/lunch was ready to go.
Then came the drive-thru — same speedy concept only you could stay in your car wearing your PJs or that shirt with the big brown spot and no one was the wiser.
The latest evolution: Fast-food delivery.
And not just fast-food.
With a few clicks on your phone or computer, you can get pancakes and eggs, chicken wings, tacos, sandwiches, salads, Chinese, Japanese, burgers, fries, ice cream and, of course, the ubiquitous pizza.
And starting Monday, April 2, Tucson’s six Five Guys Burgers & Fries restaurants are joining the delivery party through UberEats and, beginning May 2, DoorDash.
Here’s how it works:
You can go through Five Guys’ website (fiveguys.com), but the easiest most direct route is through ubereats.com or doordash.com
Put in your delivery address, and then find the link for Five Guys.
Make your order, pay, and voila, the food will come with a knock on your door.
Five Guys is the latest and likely not the last chain to introduce delivery service. Local restaurants getting in on the action include Eegees, Baggin’s Gourmet Sandwiches and the Atomic Frog Ice Cream Parlor & Café on the northwest side. A delivery fee that varies will be added to your order.
Meanwhile, D&J Holdings LLC, which owns and operates the Tucson Five Guys restaurants, is branching out to Queen Creek in the Phoenix area. The group will open its seventh restaurant by year’s end, said D&J’s Doug Vaughan.
