Six months after opening in a 3,500-square-foot ground-floor space of the Hub at Tucson student apartment complex near the UA, Goodness Juice Bar and Fresh Food pulled the plug.
The owners on Saturday closed the restaurant at 1011 N. Tyndall Ave., across the street from the University of Arizona.
Brandon Katz, who owns the restaurant with Andre Joffroy, said the space was likely too big for the restaurant's ambitions. They also struggled with finding a reasonable price point to accommodate their primarily student customer base, Katz said.
The Hub location was the second for Goodness, owned and operated by Katz and Joffroy's company Sol Hospitality. The first Goodness opened in April 2014 at 2502 N. Campbell Ave.
"We could admit to making a mistake and being too close to our original location," Katz said on Monday. "We made a mistake and we have to cut our losses."
Katz said he is negotiating a lease for a new location near East Tanque Verde Road and East Camino Principal.
Meanwhile the original Goodness is doing well and might expand its location, Katz said.
Sol Hospitality also owns Nox Kitchen + Cocktails, 6370 N. Campbell Ave.
