United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona launched its 2015-16 workforce campaign Thursday.

During the annual campaign, more than 13,000 employees at nearly 300 companies, government agencies and nonprofit organizations across the region pledge their support to United Way through donations or payroll deductions.

β€œWe are looking to raise $10 million β€” or better” after raising about $9.2 million last year, said Tony Penn, president and CEO of United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona.

Representatives of the city, Pima County, businesses and nonprofit groups took part in the launch event, pledging to β€œunite a force against poverty.”

Robert D. Ramirez, president and CEO of Vantage West Credit Union, is chairman of the 2015-16 campaign.
