Le Cave's Bakery

Crumbling ceiling tiles were among the many things a county health inspector found in an early October inspection of Le Cave’s Bakery, 1219 S. Sixth Ave. The bakery reopened Friday with a provisional permit.

Pima County health inspectors issued a provisional permit late Thursday night allowing Le Cave’s Bakery to reopen.

County officials shut down the doughnut shop on Tuesday after poor health inspections. The bakery reopened Friday.

A deteriorated roof on the 80-year-old building created water leaks throughout the bakery, most critically in food production areas.

Inspection reports and other documents described peeled paint, crumbling plaster from walls and general unsanitary conditions throughout the facility.

County health officials told the Arizona Daily Star on Thursday Le Cave’s would be issued a provisional permit once the immediate health concerns involving paint, ceiling tiles, rusted and dirty equipment were addressed.

A provisional permit can be issued for up to six months.
