Employees from Larry H. Miller Dealerships in Tucson volunteered their time to help Habitat for Humanity and the Community Food Bank.

  • Larry H. Miller Dealerships: As part of the company’s annual day of service, 80 Tucson employees volunteered their time with Habitat for Humanity and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona on Wednesday. The crew spent the entire day packing food boxes for the less fortunate, painting and getting their hands dirty fixing up houses in the area. The event is in honor of the late Larry H. Miller on his birthday, as he strongly believed in giving back to the communities in which the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies conducts business. Since 2010, more than 7,618 employees have donated more than 30,472 hours to 140 organizations in seven states.
  • The Petco Foundation: The Petco Foundation awarded Pima Animal Care Center a $25,000 grant to support the shelter’s continued investment in providing medical services to pets in need. The grant will fund lifesaving medical equipment, including three baby animal incubators that PACC will use to care for orphaned litters while its staff finds them foster placements. In addition, the shelter plans to purchase an additional surgery light, surgery table and electric lift exam table, which will be used to save critically injured patients. Other items the grant will fund: a syringe pump, for delivering nutrition to baby animals whose glucose levels are crashing; an additional dental scaler and polisher, for giving senior pets a second chance; and a trans-illuminator system for helping pets with eye problems and head trauma.
  • Chicanos Por La Causa: Students in the University of Arizona Health Sciences colleges will benefit from a $500,000 gift from Chicanos Por La Causa. The Lorraine Lee Health Sciences Scholarship Fund, which will fund scholarships beginning in the fall, will help address the critical shortage of physicians and health-care providers in the state, giving students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and public health the financial support they need to make an impact. Lorraine Lee, a Southern Arizona community advocate, died of cancer in 2007.
  • Tucson Federal Credit Union: The credit union donated a total of $45,000 to three local nonprofits. The Community Partnership Awards recognize organizations whose charitable missions transform lives of people in need and where a direct impact of the donation can be measured. TFCU selected the Erik Hite Foundation to receive the largest donation of $25,000 and Youth on Their Own and Our Family Services to receive $10,000 each.
