- Marana: For the 10th consecutive year, the town has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Award. The honor recognizes Marana’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and operational transparency. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an example for other governments throughout North America.
- Southern Arizona Branch of the American Public Works Association: The association announced the winners of its annual Public Works Project of the Year awards. The program was established to promote excellence in the management and administration of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the consultant/architect/engineer, and the contractor. The winners are:
- The city of Tucson’s project at Sabino Canyon Road from Tanque Verde to Kolb roads won the large transportation project (greater than $10 million) category. The consultant was Psomas and the contractor was The Ashton Company.
- Pima County’s project on Valencia Road from Mark to Wade roads won the large transportation project award of merit. The consultant was HDR Inc. and the contractor was Achen-Gardner Construction.
- The city of Tucson won the transportation category for less than $10 million for its project on Silverbell Road from Goret to Grant roads. The consultant was Kittelson & Associates and the contractor was Hunter Contracting.
- The transportation (small cities/rural communities) award went to the Arizona Department of Transportation for the pedestrian undercrossing facility at the Mariposa Port of Entry and Arizona 189. The consultant was Stantec and the contractor was Meridian Engineering.
- Pima County won the environment (less than $5 million) category with its 22nd Street sewer augmentation project. The consultant was EEC and the contractor was KE&G Construction.
- Pima County also received the environment (less than $5 million) award of merit for the Aerospace Parkway sewer extension. The consultant was EEC and the contractor was KE&G Construction.
- The Arizona Department of Transportation won the structures (less than $5 million) award for the Benson-Steins Pass Highway (Texas Canyon Rest Area). The consultant was Dibble Corp. and the contractor was KE&G Construction.
- The town of Sahuarita won the structures award for small cities/rural communities for the Pima Mine Road bridge replacement. The consultant was TranSystems and the contractor was Borderland Construction.
- Fred Felix, transportation engineering administrator for the city of Tucson, won the Outstanding Public Works Employee award.
