Viola Morales answered the phone at Sue's Fish & Chips on South Fourth Avenue Thursday morning with a declaration:
"No, we are not closing," she said even before the question was posed.
It was the same answer she had been giving all morning to callers of the South Tucson restaurant which has occupied a place in Tucson's heart and stomach for 65 years.
Morales said customers had been calling all morining after a rumor circulated on social media about the restaurant closing. A link attached to the post made clear it was a hoax, she said.
We scoured Facebook and could find only one post saying Sue's was closing. The poster was quickly corrected before bemoaning the loss of Delectables, which announced this week that it would be closing June 30.
Sue's opened in 1952 in a small building at 2500 S. Fourth Ave. in South Tucson. It is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
