- Town of Oro Valley: The Society for Human Resource Management of Greater Tucson recognized the town for technology/process improvement. The award recognizes the Townβs employee wellness program for outstanding achievements in furthering the health of employees and their dependents through a variety of programs that serve to educate, identify health risks and provide for early intervention and follow up. As part of its focus on wellness, the Town of Oro Valley opened an onsite health clinic for employees and their dependents that provides free access to basic medical care.
- Tucson Federal Credit Union: The credit union won the Community Impact Award from the Society for Human Resource Management of Greater Tucson. TFCUβs nomination focused on Team Make a Difference, a group of independent employee-volunteers. The committee promotes volunteerism and philanthropy within the organization and led the way for notable acts of kindness like the βUltimate Savings Deposit,β a drive that collected over 4,100 items of food for homeless teens.
- John Ehiri: The professor and chair of the Department of Health Promotion Sciences at the University of Arizonaβs Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program grant to Nigeria. Ehiri will be at the University of Lagos College of Medicine in Nigeria as part of a research project to reduce HIV stigma among health personnel who provide services for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV using a cluster-randomized trial at health centers in Lagos, Nigeria. Ehiri will also work to strengthen the UA College of Public Healthβs global health reach by building research and training collaboration with the College of Medicine in Nigeria.
- Piccarreta Davis Keenan Fidel PC: In the 2017 Best Law Firms rankings released online by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers, Piccarreta Davis Keenan Fidel PC received Tier 1 metropolitan rankings in Tucson for criminal defense. Michael L. Piccarreta was selected in the areas of criminal defense and white collar criminal defense and has been listed in The Best Lawyers for 26 consecutive years. Jefferson Keenan was selected in the area of appellate practice and has been listed in The Best Lawyers for five consecutive years.
- University of Arizona School of Anthropology: The schoolβs graduate students swept the presentation awards at the meetings of the Southwestern Association of Biological Anthropologists. Rebecca Mountain won the best poster award for her poster titled βAssessing differences in cortical and trabecular bone loss in archaeological specimens using peripheral quantitative computed tomography.β Rebeccaβs advisor is Associate Professor James Watson. James Webber won the best podium presentation award for his talk titled βThe effects of high speed and weighted walking on head pitch and knee forces.β Jamesβ advisor is Associate Professor David Raichlen.
