Name: Byron Evans 

Years at UA: 1983-86

Accomplishments: In 1986, Evans was the lone captain of the team — the Wildcats went 9-3 — and a second-team All-American selection. He was also the 1986 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year. Evans was inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. He was a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection (1985, 1986). 

Evans ranks in the top 10 in UA history in the following categories: 

• Career total tackles: 2nd, 552 total tackles 

• Career solo tackles: 2nd, 315 solo tackles 

• Career assisted tackles: 2nd, 237 assisted tackles 

Evans also led Arizona in the following categories in 1985 and 1986:

• Total tackles: 188 (1985); 196 (1986)

• Unassisted tackles: 118 (1985); 111 (1986)

• Assisted tackles: 70 (1985); 85 (1986)
