It takes about an hour to drive from Kolb Road at Interstate 10 east to Willcox, where the u-pick ’em scene is revving up.
And if you plan the day right, you’ll return home well-fed and satisfied with all of the benefits that come with a day spent at the farm.
Over the last 30 years, Apple Annie’s has grown into a destination with fruit orchards, a produce farm and a country store, drawing generations of families.
“It’s far enough to feel that you’ve really gotten away,” said Annie Holcomb. She and her husband, John, own Apple Annie’s, and their children have returned to help with the enterprise.
Peach Mania, a celebration of tree-ripened Willcox peaches, started in early July and runs through this weekend, Aug. 6-7.
Holcomb said many customers come in from out of town, arriving in time for the “All You Can Eat” Peaches and Pancakes seasonal breakfast served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. both days. The cost: $8.99, $4.99 for kids.
A lot has changed since the Holcomb family planted their first fruit trees decades ago. Part of that is Cochise County’s growing reputation as a wine country destination.
“It’s mutually beneficial. The wineries tell us they see more people when we’re open,” Holcomb said. “We both support each other.”
