West-side lunch crowd, rejoice! A new seafood restaurant is brightening up that desolate strip of fast food joints on Grant Road.

No, it's not a Red Lobster! It's actually called Mr. Baja Fish, a full-service casual restaurant serving an eclectic selection of Mexican seafood. Its moderately priced menu features beachside classics like fish tacos and burritos, as well as some items you'd be hard-pressed to find outside of Mexico.

Standouts include shrimp and marlin taco plates for under $8, ceviche tostadas, octopus cocktails and a Hermosillo specialty, sting ray soup. On a recent visit, I tried the Cocos con Mariscos, a chilled seafood sampler inspired by a dish Owner Benjamin Lugo ate in Rosarito, Mexico. It features squid, octopus, crab, shrimp and more packed into a large coconut for $15.99. The fresh seafood also came with a chilled glass of coconut juice on the side. In addition to complimentary chips and salsa, each table also gets a bowl of spicy bean dip.

The space was formerly a KFC, but owner Lugo has brightened it up with large beach photographs and wall hangings of tropical fish. The vibe is very casual, a step above the regular fast-food lunch place.
