The Comedy Playhouse reaches back to 1914 for its next offering: “It Pays to Advertise,” by Roi Cooper Megrue and Walter Hackett. Things get dirty when a father, head of a successful soap company, cuts his playboy son off financially. In response, the son spearheads an advertising campaign targeting his dad. It’s a farce. What else could it be? The Comedy Playhouse is at 3620 N. First Ave. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through July 30. $18. 270-9310. thecomedyplayhouse.com.

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,/ A tale of a fateful trip/ That started from this tropic port/ Aboard this tiny ship. — “The Ballad of Gilligan’s Island”
If you recognize those lyrics, have we got a show for you. “A Gilligan’s Island Revue” brings together the kind of dimwitted Gilligan, the captain of the S.S. Minnow (most often called The Skipper), the 1 percent Thurston Howell III, his wife, Ginger, the Professor and Mary Ann for an evening of jokes and songs inspired by the tropics. This is courtesy of the Gaslight Music Hall, so expect talent and lots of corn. It’s at 13005 N. Oracle Road.Performances are 6 p.m. Thursdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Aug. 17. $19.95. 529-1000. gaslightmusichall.com.
And on the far east side, the Gaslight Theatre is staging “Spider Guy,” a musical spoof of the Spider-Man movies. Expect groanable humor, lots of songs, and an after-show olio of “The Gong Show.” Truly, you do not want to miss that. Performances are at various times throughout the week. Continues through Aug. 27. $19.95. 886-9428. thegaslighttheatre.com.
