Theater companies have started announcing their 2017-18 seasons. Among those with season subscriptions currently available:
Arizona Theatre Company
ATC hasn’t released dates yet, and it’s still got one show to finalize in its 6-play season. But here’s what they are teasing us with: The glorious musical “Man of La Mancha;” Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two;” the moving “The Diary of Anne Frank;” the haunting “The River Bride” by Marisela Trevino Orta, and John Patrick Shanley’s romantic comedy, “Outside Mullingar.”
Season ticket prices vary according to the number of plays in a package. arizonatheatre.org or 622-2823.
Broadway in Tucson
The presenting organization has a couple of musical classics in store for us. It’s also got fairy tales and a few old friends on the schedule.
The season opens with “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” on Sept. 13-17, and follows that up with the Tony-winning musical “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” Oct. 4-8. Filling out the upcoming season is “Cinderella” (Dec. 5-10) and “The King and I” (March 13-18, 2018), both by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and “Finding Neverland” (April 24-29, 2018), based on the movie of the same name.
Broadway in Tucson is adding a couple extras next season — which means tickets are separate from the season package.
The rollicking rock musical “Rent” makes a return visit to Centennial Hall Nov. 3-5, as does the deliciously irreverent “The Book of Mormon” April 3-8, 2018.
Single tickets for most shows go on sale in August and September.
Season ticket packages are $115-$429 at broadwayintucson.com or 1-866-821-2929.
Live Theatre Workshop
This small theater company may be the busiest in town — it has shows year round, and it’s rare that the stage is quiet.
The 2017-18 opens in July with the comedy “Same Time, Next Year” (July 13-Aug. 19), and things roll right on through to June of next year. Also on the schedule: Theresa Rebeck’s “Seminar” (Aug. 24-Sept. 23); Ken Ludwig’s “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery” (Oct. 5-Nov. 11); “The Voice of the Prairie” by John Olive (Nov. 16-Dec. 23); John Guare’s “The House of Blue Leaves” (Jan. 4-Feb. 10); “The Best Brothers” by Daniel MacIvor (Feb. 15-March 24, 2018); “Women in Jeopardy” by Wendy MacLeod (March 29-May 5, 2018), and Christopher Durang’s “Miss Witherspoon” (May 10-June 9, 2018).
