The Twisted Tandoor pulled off a narrow win against Hellfire Pizza Co. in one of the closest contests to date in Caliente’s inaugural Food Truck Madness competition.
Both took to their Facebook pages to urge fans to show their support over the weekend, but when the dust settled, the Indian fare favorite prevailed by a mere 11 votes to advance to the final four.
This week it faces DC Jumbie Latin Caribbean, which emerged victorious from a vigorous contest with Guero Loco’s Bubba-Que.
On Monday, DC Jumbie posted a big Facebook thank you to its fans: “WOW!!! DC JUMBIE made it to the FINAL FOUR Best Food Trucks in Tucson because of YOU!!! We are ETERNALLY GRATEFUL (smile emoticon) THANK YOU all for your endless Support and getting us this Far! We have 2 more rounds to go, Voting will begin again on Thursday, June 11th. Get your fingers ready to make it Happen and Let Tucson know who is your favorite!!”
Pin-Up Pastries, which drew raves for sweet treats such as maple bacon cupcakes during the nomination phase, sprinted past the Cool Cajun Cafe to a Round 3 victory.
“Thanks to you all, Its Official! We have made it to the Final Four in the Food Truck Madness competition!!!!” Pin-Up posted on Facebook Monday. “We honestly are overwhelmed by your passion for Pin-Up Pastries and again can’t thank you enough for your continued participation. Round 4 voting starts Thursday and we will again need everyone’s vote to get to the Finals!!! We will post a link Thursday morning, this round we will be up against You Sly Dog- hot dogs!! Thanks again!!!”
You Sly Dog, serving up “Southern Arizona’s tastiest hot dogs,” also thanked supporters on Facebook and its website, youslydog.com: “Its official! You Sly dog is in the final four! Thanks to everyone that helped us get to were we are. Please like, share and vote for You Sly Dog!!”
You Sly Dog earned a comfortable Round 3 win over BurgerRito.
The remaining four food trucks will be winnowed down to two by next week. Voting starts Thursday at Tucson.com/mobilemadness
