German record label Le Pop Musik is releasing a compilation album of songs from Tucson musicians, but it won't be available on the U.S. iTunes site.
You have to go to the European iTunes; Le Pop is targeting the album for distribution in France, where Southwestern pop and rock music has a devoted fanbase.
"Tucson Songs" includes contributions from Calexico, Brian Lopez, Gabriel Sullivan, Marianne Dissard, Amy Rude, Al Perry, Howe Gelb, Sergio Mendoza Y La Orkesta, Naim Amor and Golden Boots.
Dissard, Lopez and Amor have releases with Le Pop. Europe has long had an appetite for Southwestern pop music and Tucson artists have found welcome and enthusiastic audiences when they tour abroad.
Lopez, frontman for Tucson band Mostly Bears, is touring in France now doing shows with Giant Sand and Sullivan.
