Rap to rock the Rialto
When it came out in 1995, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ...” launched a subgenre of hip-hop known as mafioso rap — kind of a mini-subgenre under the umbrella of gangsta rap.
But the album, the solo debut of Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon, had a more lasting impact for its cinematic scope. The album played out like a movie, critics agreed, with Raekwon as the star and fellow Wu-Tang rapper Ghostface Killah as guest star.
The pair have spent the past two months celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ...” The tour pulls into the Rialto Theatre Thursday before hitting So-Cal for the final three dates.
Thursday’s show, featuring rising young rapper Dillon Cooper, starts at 8 p.m. at the Rialto, 318 E. Congress St. Tickets are $28 to $200 (VIP/Meet and Greet package) through ticketfly.com
