Five Guys No. 1 in new poll

Fat burgers with plenty of toppings has won legions of fans.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries is opening its sixth Tucson location, this one at the south side Tucson Spectrum shopping plaza.

The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. Saturday at 5331 S. Calle Santa Cruz, off West Irvington Road next to the Harkins Spectrum 18 movie theater.

The restaurant was announced last August with the expectation that it would open by the end of last year.

The Washington, D.C.-based Five Guys stormed into the Tucson market with its first restaurant in September 2010 on North Campbell Avenue and East Glenn Street. The opening brought out lines of curious burger aficionados and set an opening day record for the company, a corporate spokeswoman said at the time.

By the following August, Five Guys had opened three restaurants in Tucson.

Beginning Saturday, Five Guys at the Spectrum will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
