Poppy Kitchen at La Paloma Resort rolled out a menu makeover last weekend that's inspired by Tucson.

A trio of new menus focuses on modernized American classics that take on distinctive Southwestern flavors courtesy local ingredients such as Arizona honey, jalapeño peppers and regional chiles.

Examples: The new Bloody “Maze” cocktail, combining sweet corn cream and tequila with a splash of hot sauce. Green chile hollandaise sauce and chipotle biscuits transforms traditional Eggs Benedict into "Tucson Eggs Benedict."

The restaurant, which opened at the foothills resort, 3770 E. Sunrise Drive, in early 2014, also is upping its wine game and is offering house-infused cocktails on tap. Weekend brunch — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays — has a menu of so-called “brunchy” cocktails; and happy hour — 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturdays — includes $2 and $3 beers, $5 cocktails, and $6 burgers.

Another incentive to check it out: Show your Arizona driver's license and you get an additional 20 percent off. Consider it the restaurant's way of thanking you for sticking around in the heat of Tucson's summertime.

Poppy Kitchen serves dinner nightly beginning at 5 p.m. Click here for details or call 219-1235.
