Making arepas, Colombian and Venezuelan bread

Dana Montenegro, the executive chef at Contigo Cocina Latina, cooks pork that she will stack with other ingredients in arepas.

More than five years, two kids and a bum knee after opening her Latin restaurant Contigo Concina Latina, Deborah Tenino is calling it quits.

She will close the restaurant, 1745 E. River Road at North Campbell Avenue, on May 17.

โ€œContigo actually did really well. It was a hard decision and the landlord wanted us to renew, but we talked about it and discussed it and thought another five years isnโ€™t in the cards right now,โ€ said Tenino, who hurt her knee eight months ago and has been having problems with it since.

Tenino and her first husband, Massimo Tenino, opened the original Tavolino Ristorante on Oracle and Ina roads in 2004. The couple divorced in 2009 and Massimo moved Tavolino to the Foothills at 2890 E. Skyline Drive in 2010, the same year that Deborah opened Contigo.

A year after opening, Deborah Tenino, who had remarried, gave birth to twins.

Tenino said she plans to hold a party on May 17 to thank her customers and staff. Contigo is normally closed on Sundays, but she has decided to make an exception for the restaurantโ€™s last hurrah.
