Hoping for a miracle

Mexico In Season launched a Kickstarter campaign to save the 14-month-old south side restaurant. A business partner pulled out, leaving the eatery scrambling to make ends meet.

With 12 days left in a Kickstarter campaign to raise enough money to keep afloat, Mexico In Season, the organic/vegan-inclined Mexican food restaurant on the south side, pulled the plug early on Saturday.

The restaurant, in business since December 2013, closed for good. In a rambling Facebook posting, the owners said, "We have no words to express our gratitude for all the support shown it was great serving you and wish we could have been here for you for many years to come but for now this chapter in our lives will have to close with the hopes of soon being back with better service and hopefully a better location."

The restaurant's last day was Saturday.

Mexico In Season, 3820 S. Palo Verde Road at South Ajo Way, launched a $25,000 Kickstarter campaign in January. The campaign is active until Feb. 19. As of this week, 76 backers pledged just over $3,600, far short of the goal.

With Kickstarter, you have to raise all the money to collect.
