Three new restaurants will open on a stretch of Speedway near campus by early next year including the long-awaited arrival of New Mexicoâs popular Blakeâs Lotaburger.
Another is Tucsonâs second location of fast-casual pizzeria Fired Pie, which opened its first restaurant downtown late last year.
And the second outpost of Crispyâs Fish-N-Chips is set to open late this month at 2545 E. Speedway, which is also home to Alibaba Mediterranean. The father-son-duo of Mario and Amer Duqmaq launched Crispyâs earlier this year in the old Daggwood CafÊ a 736 E. Fort Lowell Road.
The three new restaurants are taking up residence in the stretch between Tucson Boulevard and Country Club Road, which is already home to Starbucks, La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill, Saga Sushi, Mays Counter, Los Betos, Graze, Baggins, Xoom Juice, Choice Greens, Szechuan Omei, Papa Johnâs Pizza, Eegeeâs, and Bangkok Cafe.
Lotta Burger officials said the restaurant at 2810 E. Speedway (a former Arbyâs) is expected to open by late January. Lotta Burger specializes in green chile cheeseburgers, recognized in 2006 by National Geographic as the worldâs best.
When the Albuquerque-based chain announced it was coming to Tucson in late January, officials said it would be open by late summer. The company has nearly 80 locations throughout New Mexico and Texas. This will be its first Arizona location.
Fired Pie should be open at 2645 E. Speedway (most recently a Lukeâs Chicago Sandwiches) later this month or early December, said Doug Doyle, who owns the restaurant with two partners. In addition to the two Tucson locations, the trio have 10 restaurants in the Phoenix area.
