File this one in your cabinet of curiosities ... A sweet hunk of short rib topped with pomegranate seeds and thin strings of "micro cilantro." It comes to the table on a grill-marked tortilla, paired with a jar of crimson oil that's speckled with little bits of chile morita. You eat it at the bar under a desk lamp.
Foothills-area restaurant Nox Kitchen and Cocktails has three tacos on the menu — a Mahi Mahi, a veggie taco with "blistered corn" and this short rib taco that caught my eye. I'm so glad it did, because this is one of the most interesting ones I've tasted. Who needs salsa with that incredible smokey oil, so smooth yet sizzling on your tongue. Yum!
Weird fact: Nox is also the spot for fans of Japanese whiskey. One of their cocktails, The Monte Kyoto, features a Yamazaki 12 year with Benedictine and orange bitters.
