This weekend is packed with classical music and theater, but if your idea of a night out includes head-banging hometown metal, amazing feats of cirque du excellence, or a little 1960s groove rock, check out these three events.

World class ice skaters and acrobats challenge the laws of gravity in the group's latest show. Performers spent the afternoon preparing for their show on ice which goes from March 14-18.

Cirque du Soleil’s “Crystal — A Breakthrough Ice Experience” 

Bundle up for Cirque du Soleil’s “Crystal — A Breakthrough Ice Experience” at the Tucson Arena. Crystal takes us on an exhilarating exploration of self-discovery conjured from her wonderful imagination. This is Cirque du Soleil’s first ice show, and from early reviews, it’s a gem. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, and Friday, March 16; 4 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17; and 1:30 and 5 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the arena, 260 S. Rock n' Roll 

Rialto Theatre and Local Love are teaming up for a night of homegrown metal rock on Friday, March 16. The lineup includes Drop D, AC/CD tribute band The Jack, Scare Card, Motley Crüe tribute band Wild Side and Harlette. Doors open at 6:30 and the first band goes on at 7. Admission to the all-ages show is $5 in advance at ticketfly.com or $8 at the door. Details: rialtotheatre.com

Down on the Corner

Gaslight Theater regular Mike Yarema is bringing his Credence Clearwater Revival tribute act Down on the Corner — with Mike Hebert, Adam Ackermann, Gene Torres and Mike Blommer — to Gaslight Music Hall, 13005 N. Oracle Road, Oro Valley. They will do two shows — 2 and 6 p.m. — on Saturday, March 17. Tickets are $25 for adults, $13 for kids online at gaslightmusichall.com Details: 529-1000.
