Willie Nelson returns to Tucson for sold-out show

Apparently, tickets to country music icon Willie Nelson’s Jan. 5 show were the gift of choice for fans.

Desert Diamond Casino officials sent word the day after Christmas that every last seat will have a butt in it at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5.

Likely many of those in the casino’s concert hall at 1100 W. Pima Mine Road had tickets to see Nelson last February when he had to cancel because of illness.

So what are you missing if you didn’t unwrap a ticket Christmas morning? All those great Nelson classics, of course — “On the Road Again,” “Georgia On My Mind,” “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys,” “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” — delivered in Nelson’s softly worn singsong baritone.

And perhaps he might even introduce a new song or two from his 2017 studio album “God’s Problem Child,” the 72nd in his 60-plus-year career and his first album of new original material in three years.

Our money says he’ll sing “He Won’t Ever Be Gone,” an homage to Nelson’s longtime friend and collaborator Merle Haggard.
