“Activity hubs” — and maybe a penny-farthing high wheel — await.

Cyclovia is gearing up for a massive “How ya doin’ neighbor?” day.

Thousands are expected at the biannual bike blow-out — happening from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, April 2. Motor traffic will be diverted. Many will be on bikes. Some on roller skates. Others walking. One of the cool things about this event connecting neighborhoods is that residents pour out of their homes to greet the riders, cheer them on, and even join them.

Twice a year, the 7-year-old Cyclovia, the brainchild of Living Streets Alliance, cruises through different neighborhoods. It’s a grand celebration of art, health, music, people and our town.

And organizers do everything they can to make sure riders from around the city get to know a bit about the area they are riding through. Sunday’s route stretches from El Presidio Park downtown to West 33rd Street and South Eighth Avenue. There are five “activity hubs” along the route where participants can slow down and do such things as check out the museums (the Tucson Museum of Art and Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson will be open), listen to music, learn more about bike care, indulge in a food truck treat, grab some sunscreen, and learn about which businesses do what in the neighborhood.

Participation is free. cycloviatucson.org
