An 8-year-old girl was injured and taken to a hospital after falling from a tourist tram in Sabino Canyon on Saturday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Pima County Sheriffβs Department.
βOne of the (tram) carts may have been swaying. But what exactly led to her falling off, we couldnβt determine,β said Deputy Ryan Inglett on Monday.
Inglett said investigators βdidnβt find anything that would lead to an arrest.β
Asked if the speed of the tram was a factor in the girlβs fall, he said, βWe donβt know exactly how fast it was moving.β
Inglett said the girl was taken to a hospital, but he didnβt know her condition.
Don Ricketts, owner of Sabino Canyon Tours, which operates trams in the canyon northeast of Tucson, said the tram driver has been suspended.
The tram βwas approaching what they call βDead Manβs Hillβ and thatβs when it happened,β Ricketts said. βWeβre not sure about the speed. Thatβs under investigation.β
Trams are continuing to run in the canyon during the investigation, he said.
βThis is the first injury (involving a tram) that we know of in 30 years,β Ricketts said.
