Looking for something to do this weekend will be a walk in the park.

We mean that literally, since the city of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its 10th annual family festival at Reid Park on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The festival, which is expected to draw more than 13,000, people gets bigger every year said Sierra Davenport, the community and marketing manager for Tucson Parks and Recreation. In the three short years Davenport has worked for the department, attendance has jumped by a few thousand.

With a full day of free activities that include themed games, a rock-climbing wall, skateboarding demonstrations, prizes, crafts, inflatables and disc golf, there’s sure to be something for everybody.

KIDCO — the department’s after-school program — will be on hand for face-painting and an art exhibit featuring the work of its participants.

“We use this event to showcase what Tucson Parks and Rec is and does,” Davenport said. “So, we demonstrate our classes and activities we offer throughout the year. But we also use it as a fun way to invite the community to have a fun day and enjoy our staff.”

As part of the event, both the Reid Park Zoo and the Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center will offer free admission for the day. And, Tucson City Golf will offer free 10-minute golf instruction at the Randolph Driving Range, 600 S. Alvernon Way.

Those who attend are asked to bring canned food items that will be donated to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
