Director Christopher Nolan rarely does anything small.
Many of his films are masterworks with lush scene-scapes and epic scores. Some of his works over the last decade include "Interstellar," "Inception" and "Batman Rises."
This weekend, Nolan will unleash his latest project into the world: "Dunkirk," about the early WWII Dunkirk evacuation of 1940.
Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy help round out this mega-cast of actors, mostly playing British, French, Belgian and Canadian soldiers, attempting to flee Dunkirk, France, before the Germans get to them.
The movie has its first screenings in Tucson on Thursday night.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...and by frightful, we mean oppressively hot, muggy and sprinkled with daily downpours that wreak havoc across the city.
Dillinger Brewing Company, 3895 N. Oracle Road, is looking to put the Ho, Ho, Ho in Hot with a Christmas in July celebration this Friday.
The brewery will have two beers to fit the faux season, a peppermint stout and cinnamon "hunny" porter, and gingerbread cookies to fill your bellies.
Growler fills will be sold at a 33 percent discount.
The brewery is encouraging one and all to wear Hawaiian shirts and Santa hats.
Christmas in July runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. More information can be found on the Facebook event page.

Peach pies, peach fudge, peach-topped pancakes and sweet tree-ripened peaches — it’s all about peaches when Peach Mania starts Saturday, July 22, at Apple Annie’s Orchard in Willcox.
This year’s Peach mania runs July 22-23, 29-30, Aug. 5-6 and 12-13. The weekend of July 29-30 will be the Country Craft Fair weekend with vendors from all over Arizona setting up shop.
Picked at the peak of season, this crop of peaches is the best in recent years, Annie’s owner John Holcomb said in a prepared statement.
“We were fortunate to have a mild spring and had very little frost damage. The trees are loaded.”
The all-you-can-eat peaches and pancakes breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and Apple Annie’s “apple-smoked” burger lunches will be served 11:30 a.m.to 3 p.m. each day of the event.
Apple Annie’s is open daily for picking, with free parking and admission. Take Interstate 10 to Willcox, Exit 340, turn onto Fort Grant Road for 5.5 miles, turn right on Nickles Road and follow the signs. Details at AppleAnnies.com, or call 1-520-384-2084.
A portion of the proceeds from all of Apple Annie’s events are donated to March of Dimes, Lupus Foundation of Southern Arizona and Youth Haven Ranches. In recent years Apple Annie’s has donated more than $95,000.

David Blaine has made a name for himself performing acts that are just beyond magic and just short of lunacy.
He's also not bad with a deck of cards.
It's hard to tell what the master illusionist might have in store for his appearance at the Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress, this Saturday. He's always trying something new and surreal.
Guess there's only one way to find out. The show starts at 8 p.m.

During Tucson's furnace of a summer many of the city's main attractions shift their business hours to accommodate visitors during the cooler evening hours.
One neat attraction that has gone all-in on this concept is the Pima Air and Space Museum, 6000 E. Valencia Road, which will hold its Night Wings evening hours this Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The museum's main exhibits will be open, with the entire grounds open until sundown. There are educational activities in all of the hangars and the museum's Flight Grill is open for dinner.
Admission is cheaper than during the day, $10 for adults and free for children under 12.

The onslaught of 1990s nostalgia tours continues this Sunday with another round of "I Love the '90s" artists set to visit Casino del Sol's AVA on Sunday.
Among this summer's selection: Biz Markie, Coolio, C&C Music Factory, Snap and TLC.
Are we complaining? No. Your humble list compiler is of the age where these artists served as the soundtrack to his early teen years.
Let's hope the recent monsoon conditions don't go causing waterfalls...or flash floods or any other hazardous conditions that might ruin the evening.
