Now in its 26th year, the Tucson Jewish Film Festival has 11 days of films planned, including a documentary on Leonard Nimoy dubbed "For the Love of Spock" set to screen on Saturday.
Thursday's opening night screening will be of "The Price of Sugar," the tale of two sisters in eighteenth century Suriname, at the Loft.
The rest of the films will screen at the Tucson Jewish Community Center.

The Tucson Jazz Festival has always managed to impress with its stellar lineups, and this year keeps the trend going.
It kicks off Thursday with saxophonist Kamasi Washington and runs through the January 22, with acts like George Benson, John Pizzarelli and Storm Large, who is known best for her vocal work with the Portland ensemble Pink Martini.

Clear your schedule for this weekend's Tucson Fringe Festival, a three-day romp through 21 shows over the course of three days downtown.
Expect edgy, entertaining and fun.
Shows will be held at Hotel Congress, The Flycatcher, The Screening Room and Zuzi's theater at the Historic Y.

Dragoon Brewing Company, at 1859 W. Grant Road, will be holding a pairing event, matching those sweet treats known as Girl Scout cookies with different Dragoon beers, this Saturday.
It will be the first day of Girl Scout cookie sales and we believe scouts will be on site.

Three Wells Distilling, 3780 E. 44th St., continues its build-a-gin series with another workshop this Saturday.
The sessions teach participants how to make their own gin, then sends them home with a legally labeled bottle of the concoction that they created, according to the Facebook event page.
The workshop runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. but fills up quickly.

The Southern Arizona Japanese Cultural Coalition is spearheading the Tucson Japanese Festival at the Pima Community College downtown campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave.
The event features a variety of activities and performances, including taiko drummers, and mochi making; mochi being a traditional Japanese rice cake treat.
The event runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday. More info here.

The south end of North Fourth Avenue gets a little bit classier this weekend with the opening of Revel, a wine and beer bar at 416 E. Ninth St.
The venue offers mostly European-style wines and hand selected beers. There will also be meat and cheese boards available.

Cellist Matt Haimovitz has a big show slated for Crowder Hall on the UA campus Saturday, as part of the UApresents 2016-17 performance season.
But he will also be holding a series of smaller concerts at venues throughout the city, including:
— The UA Bookstore in the UA Student Union,
— Hotel Congress, downtown
— The Tucson Jewish Community Center, 3800 E. River Road.

The Syrian Sweets Exchange returns for another round of tasty dessert offerings this Sunday.
The sale, featuring a variety of sweet goodies made by recent arrival families from Syria, will take place at Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club Road from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
All donations go to the women baking the treats.
