A TSA spokesperson said most of the items were inside carry-on bags, although a handful were improperly stored inside checked bags.

The figures from the TSA are just a fraction of what officers confiscated in 2015 at airports. Roughly 83 percent of the 2,653 firearms intercepted at 236 airports, were loaded. The TSA screened more than 708 million passengers last year, as well as 1.6 billion carry-on bags and 432 million checked bags.
