The newest elephant at the Reid Park Zoo explores the elephant enclosure.
The baby elephant gets ready to be fed in the elephant enclosure at Reid Park Zoo. The keepers have been taking the usual precautions of making sure the two have formed a strong physical and emotional bond. The 275 pound baby has been spending time mimicking her mother and being with her brothers Punga, 7 and Sundzu, 3.

It's feeding time for the newest baby elephant as Semba, feeds her daughter along the fence in the elephant enclosure at Reid Park Zoo, 3400 Zoo Court. The baby, who was born Wednesday, August 20, at 10:55 pm., is the latest member of the elephant family at Reid Park. She has yet to be named. She is also the first elephant born in Arizona.

Aubrey Burklund holds her son Owen, 4, at they watch Semba, the elephant and her daughter off in the distance as they walk around the elephant enclosure at Reid Park Zoo. The baby elephant has learned to wallow in the mud and playing with tree branches which Semba eats. Currently, the keepers are in the process of choosing from a number of possible names for the newcomer. Once they have several names that are suitable, they will ask the public for their input to give her a name.
