Romanian-born classical guitarist Ana Maria Iordache will perform a program of works by Spanish composers as part of the second annual Cathedral Concert Series on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
The concert, sponsored by the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson and Rio Nuevo, begins at 6:30 p.m. in Our Lady’s Chapel at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave.
The foundation launched the classical music concert series last October with a mariachi concert; the 2024 series also opened with mariachi last month. The 2024 series includes five monthly concerts through February 2025.
Iordache began playing classical guitar at age 6. After receiving her undergraduate degree in her native Bucharest and a performance master’s degree in Spain, she came to the University of Arizona School of Music, where she earned two master’s degrees. She is now pursuing her doctoral degree under Tom Patterson, who has led the UA’s prestigious Bolton Guitar Studies program for more than 40 years, and UA Grammy-winning artists-in-residence David Russell and Sergio and Odair Assad.
Iordache’s program focuses on late 19th-century composers, including Joaquin Turina, Mario Tedesco, Domenico Scarlatti and Napoleón Coste.

Cathedral Concert Series Artistic Director Carlos Zapién said the concert series has “proven to be a significant asset to the community.”
“Besides having internationally renowned performers, the concert series fosters local talent by providing a platform for musicians and artists to showcase their work, while also attracting visitors and enhancing community engagement,” Zapién said in a written statement. “The concert series promotes social cohesion, bringing together diverse groups and encouraging dialogue among attendees.”
Admission is free, but you must reserve your seat in advance by visiting tucsoncathedralconcerts.org.
The series continues Dec. 17 with “Christmas at the Cathedral” featuring the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus under the direction of Julian Ackerley.
