Awards season is in full swing, and on Sunday, we'll see who has a shot at the rest of the trophies, particularly since no one picture dominated at Jan. 4's Critics' Choice Awards.
The Golden Globes, always Oscarβs lesser relative, gives big stars (Demi Moore, for example) a shot at winning and doesnβt care who the critics think are deserving.
Like other precursors, this one has categories for film and television and isnβt afraid to veer from whatβs expected. Also, it rewards those βnamesβ who actually do show up.
With two categories (musical or comedy and drama) for best picture, thereβs a sure bet that everything will get nominated. Most likely, the frontrunners will come from the winners.
So, whoβs going to win the Golden Globes? Theyβre the most difficult awards to predict, but here are the ones who should tower:
MOTION PICTURES
Best picture, musical/comedy:Β βOne Battle After Another.β This should really compete in the drama category, but itβs a sure bet here. βMarty Supremeβ may find some love.
Male actor, musical/comedy:Β Itβs TimothΓ©e Chalamet (βMarty Supremeβ). Leonardo Di Caprio (βOne Battle After Anotherβ) could surprise, but Timmy is on a roll.
Female actor, musical/comedy:Β Rose Byrne (βIf I had Legs Iβd Kick Youβ). Sheβs also in the wrong category, but sheβll be big. Kate Hudson (βSong Sung Blueβ) has a chance.
Male actor in a supporting role (a combined category):Β Paul Mescal (βHamnetβ) should win, but it will probably go to Sean Penn (βOne Battle After Anotherβ), if he shows. If not, Stellan SkarsgΓ₯rd (βSentimental Valueβ) has the clout.
Female actor in a supporting role:Β Ariana Grande (βWicked: For Goodβ) deserves it, but Teyana Taylor (βOne Battle After Anotherβ) has momentum.
Best picture, drama:Β βHamnet,β with βSinnersβ hot on its tail.
Male actor, drama:Β Michael B. Jordan, βSinnersβ (momentum, remember), with Wagner Moura (βThe Secret Agentβ) as a possibility.
Female actor, drama:Β Jessie Buckley, βHamnet.β Sheβs unbeatable, particularly in this lineup. Renate Reinsve (βSentimental Valueβ) could slip in.
Director:Β Paul Thomas Anderson, βOne Battle After Another.β Ryan Coogler (βSinnersβ) has an outside chance.
Non-English motion picture:Β βIt Was Just an Accident,β and then, βSentimental Value.β
Animated motion picture:Β βKPop Demon Hunters.β βZootopia 2β in second place.
Screenplay:Β βOne Battle After Another.β βSinnersβ or βMarty Supremeβ as the runner-up.
Original score:Β Ludwig Goransson, βSinners.β
Original song:Β βGolden,β from βKPop Demon Hunters.β
Cinematic and box office achievement:Β If Tom Cruise shows, βMission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning.β If not, βAvatar: Fire and Ash.β
TELEVISION
Drama series:Β βThe Pitt.β
Comedy or musical series:Β βThe Studio.β
Limited series:Β βAdolescence.β
Male actor, drama:Β Noah Wyle, βThe Pitt.β
Female actor, drama:Β Rhea Seehorn, βPluribus.β
Male actor, musical/comedy:Β Seth Rogen (βThe Studioβ) should win, but thereβs a grudge against him. If that holds, look at Adam Brody (βNobody Wants Thisβ) to slip in.
Female actor, musical/comedy:Β Jean Smart (βHacksβ) should always win. But donβt be surprised if Jenna Ortega (βWednesdayβ) gets attention.
Male actor, limited series:Β Stephen Graham (βAdolescenceβ) was best, but that doesnβt mean Charlie Hunnam (βMonster: The Ed Gein Storyβ) canβt win.
Female actor, limited series:Β Michelle Williams (βDying for Sexβ), with Sarah Snook (βAll Her Faultβ) as backup.
Male actor in a supporting role:Β Owen Cooper (βAdolescenceβ), the best performance by anyone this year. Tramell Tillman (βSeveranceβ) could best him.
Female actor in a supporting role:Β Hannah Einbinder (βHacksβ), with Erin Doherty (βAdolescenceβ) as spoiler.
Stand-up comedy performance:Β Kevin Hart, but the field is weak.
Podcast:Β βGood Hang with Amy Poehler,β but if they want stars, βSmartless.β
