New principal Ellen Fisher helps Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas as he says a prayer at the opening of the renovated classrooms at Santa Cruz Catholic School, 29 W 22nd St. There was a blessing and celebration with prayer, mariachi music and folklorico dancing. The building is now equipped with air conditioning, new windows, bathrooms and floors along with a fresh coat of paint. Parishioners from Our Lady of the Valley in Green Valley donated $800,000 to help with the capital campaign to improve three other schools in the Tucson diocese. Bishop Gerald Kicanas approaches several married couples offering a sign of peace as he celebrated mass and presided over the renewal of vows for about 170 couples at St Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. The mass was open to couples celebrating anniversaries for their first, 10th, 25th, 50th, 60th time or longer. In addition, there were 22 couples celebrating anniversaries between the mentioned years. Tucsonans Camiel and Alice Albrecht have been married the longest-68 years.
