Herbie is looking pretty good considering he is in his 70s, an estimated age provided by zookeeper Karen Toca. He has been with Reid Park Zoo since the late 1980s.
Aldabra tortoises can live well beyond 100 years of age.

Aldabra tortoises hail from the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. Herbie is one of very few animals at Reid Park Zoo that was actually caught in the wild, according to the zoo website.

Herbie has roommates. He shares a space at the zoo with Dulce, who is also in her 70s, and Georgie, who is in her 30s, according to zookeeper Karen Toca.

According to a video on Reid Park Zoo's official YouTube channel, one of Herbie's favorite pastimes is getting sprayed with the hose on a hot summer day.
