UA and Catalina Foothills High School gradΒ Matt BraseΒ and his D-League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, finished second to RaptorsΒ 905 in the league finals last week. Most know that Brase isΒ Lute Olsonβs grandson. Thereβs much more to the story. Mattβs father, Tucson dentistΒ Jon Brase, was a key part of Iowaβs 1974 Big Ten baseball co-championship; he hit a three-run homer against Minnesota to clinch that title. Mattβs paternal grandfather,Β Marven Brase, was a basketball coach at Iowaβs Edgewood High School in the 1950s and 1960s. Good genes all the way around.Β
