Frank and Beatrice Berdofe designed and contracted their own home in Hidden Valley to take advantage of the landscape and to suit the needs of their family of three youngsters.

Indoor fireplace and grill provide the fun of barbecuing without the bugs and the bother of moving the dishes outdoors. Standing at the island sink, Mrs. Berdofe can face the living and dining rooms and the front hallway.

Bedroom home features built-in storage: Mrs. Frank bedroom cabinets provide custom storage space for (right to left) tape recorder, records, sheet music and miscellany. Custom cabinets and wardrobe closets throughout the home keep clutter to a minimum.

Close-up view of kitchen storage cabinets reveals toaster on slide-out shelf. Next to it is a slide-out serving cart which can be wheeled into the dining room. Bread keeps fresh in over-size bread box (open), and barbecue equipment is conveniently located in narrow compartment on the far right.

The kitchen is open to the dining room, hallway and living room (off to the left). A steel gray ottoman, neutral floors and birch paneled wall provide the background for a bright orange sofa. Tamara's bedroom and that of the housekeeper are also off the kitchen.

Towels in sea shell rings add color accent to neutral-toned walls and fixtures of Mrs. Berdofe's bathroom. Built-in cabinets and a generous walk-in clothing closet provide ample storage space.

Gay artificial flowers in indoor planter can be changed with the season. The piano adds a friendly note to the cozy living room. The stairway (left) leads to Mr. and Mrs. Berdofe's rooms.

Unusual bunk beds in the boys' room were built to order by George Camacho. Drawer and pullout desk are concealed in each upper bunk. Bedspreads are orange, green and brown, the rug an orange toned tweed.
